Lancée en 2014, la coupe de la Ligue est la benjamine des compétitions locales organisée par la Ligue Professionnelle de Football(LFP). Pour l’édition 2018, le coup d’envoi a été donné le 8 Février et s’est achevée en apothéose le dimanche 10 juin. Au terme de 5 tours, c’est l’AFAD qui s’est adjugée le trophée victorieux de la Coupe de la Ligue.
Un parcours de champion réalisé par les academiciens qui ont passé les différents tours en faisant preuve de maîtrise et de solidité défensive. Tout commence dès le 1er tour le 9 Février par une victoire (1:0) sur le Séwé Sport. Au tour suivant, l’Afad n’a pas eu à trembler face à l’USC Bassam (1:0). Profitant d’un tableau dégagé vu que les gros calibres de la ligue ont été tous sorti, les académiciens ont eu tout de même du mal face au COK pensionnaire de la Ligue 2. La qualification pour la demi-finale des bleu et blanc a été acquise aux tirs au buts (0:0) [4-3]. En demi-finale se trouve sur le chemin de l’AFAD le vainqueur de l’édition 2017 l’ASI d’Abengourou. Un duel entre formations de Ligue 1 qui tourne à l’avantage des hommes de Gouaméné Maxime(2:0).
L’heure de la finale a sonné, le jour de gloire est arrivé pour le jeune club fondé en 2005 de décrocher son 2 ème titre majeur de son histoire après le titre de champion de Ligue 2 remporté en 2009. Sans difficulté aucune, les académiciens ont remporté cette coupe en disposant de l’Alliance de l’Indenie sur le score de 3 buts à 1.
Un parcours sans faute et seulement 1 but encaissé, la coupe de la ligue remportée par l’AFAD ne souffre d’aucune contestation.
